AQWiki:Bots
The following page lists an official guideline or policy of AQWiki. By using and editing the wiki, users must agree to the following policy. Failure to do so may result in a warning or block, which may be further outlined on this page. If you have a question or comment about this policy, please see the talk page. A wiki bot is a script or program designed to make automated edits to a wiki. For more information about wiki bots, see Wikipedia:Bots. Only approved bots are allowed to make edits to AQWiki. If you have a bot or script and would like approval, please direct your request to this article's talk page. Specify the bot username and the purpose for the bot in the request. Bots must have a clearly defined purpose and must not make edits more than once every five seconds. Preferably, edits should be made on off-peak times where server load is minimal, defined to be on weekdays between 1 AM and 11 AM EST. Unapproved bots, bots making edits outside of their approved purpose, or displaying unthrottled page viewing/editing will be blocked on sight. Bot ScriptingA number of resources are available online for making automatic wiki bots. A popular option is to use the pywikipedia framework implemented in Python. MediaWiki is developing a query API for easier automation. Please visit the API page for more information. It is recommended that the query API interface be used where possible. Approved BotsAll approved bots are placed in the bot usergroup by a sys admin. |
