Before becoming a contributor, you should become familiar with MediaWiki and the wiki syntax. A full handbook for editors is available. While it is encouraged that you become familiar with all the different aspects listed in the handbook, you should concentrate on the following subjects that are most helpful when editing AQWiki:

• Wikilinks
• Templates
• Categories

AQWiki uses policies and guidelines to help maintain consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all articles. All editors should be fully aware of these guidelines during editing to minimize any edit conflicts. Wikipedia's policies and guidelines should be considered a baseline for AQWiki. In addition, the following policies are enforced:

• Article content - All articles in the default namespace should pertain to some aspect of AdventureQuest, the online Flash RPG by Artix Entertainment. See the content policy.
• Article naming conventions - Consistency of article names are provided by the naming policy.
• Uploading images - Many articles on AQWiki have an image that illustrates the subject of the article. However, these images may be subject to copyright laws and must be tagged appropriately. See the image policy for more information.
• Template usage - Usage of templates are highly encouraged. For a list of all templates, see the template list. Most templates should have a paragraph describing their use.
• Bots - Bots are used for automatic editing of articles. These bots must be approved according to the bot policy.

Don't know where to start editing? Here are some things you can try:

• See pages that are linked to but do not exist, and create them!
• Browse through tagged articles that need further revision and fix them up!
• Found an article that needs formatting or updating? Edit the article and add the {{needswork}} template at the top so it can be reviewed later.
• Did not find the article you were looking for? Create it! Visit the search page, type the name of the article, and click create this page to begin editing.
