Element
There are 8 basic elements and one other element.
They are fire, water, wind, ice, earth, energy, light, darkness, and Element X, the odd man out. The elements conflict with each like so: Dealing damage to something with its opposing element usually deals more damage than normal because of the forementioned conflict. This is due to the Elemental Lords (See this page) who war with each other. Element X has no Elemental Lord there for has no conflict with anything, and without a conflicting element it is not resisted by anything. (Carnax took no damage from Element X but he is not completely understood. Also he has finally been vanquished so we will not run into this problem from him again.) Attacking a creature with its own element usually yields deminished damage if it did not healing the creature. Elements are the basic building blocks of success. All attacks have an element. For example, the Long Sword, the Adventurer default no-drop, does earth damage. On the other hand, the Lycan Bow does Ice damage. You can tell what element an attack does by looking at the picture provided (e.g., A leaf for earth). The symbols for each element are on the chart (excluding Element X). They are as follows starting with the sun and going clockwise:
